In dentistry, gnathology focuses on the functionality of our stomatognathic system (the dental system, masticatory muscles, and temporomandibular joint).
This system enables functions like chewing, breathing, and speech. When any part of this system loses functionality, such as muscle contractions or changes in tooth position due to dental work, the body adapts to maintain its function.
However, this adaptation can lead to symptoms like neck pain, jaw pain, tooth migration, gum disease, and cavities. Gnathology aims to restore the normal function of teeth, muscles, and joints involved in chewing movements, which can alleviate symptoms caused by dental issues.
